Planning a short Alps road trip
Keep it to two or three stops a day. Mountain roads between valleys take longer than the map suggests, and with kids the breaks matter more than the distance.
What to sort out before you cross the border
- Buy the Austrian motorway vignette online in advance
- Check parking and opening times for the viewpoints you want to see
- Pack layers — the weather changes fast at altitude
